About Adam Powley

Adam Powley whinges on a full-time basis (mostly on sport) and in his spare-time writes books, pens the odd article, and generally struggles to come to grips with the modern world (mostly concerning sport).

His most recent gainful employment was with a major publishing house, but he decided to go against all sensible advice and switch from life as a comparatively comfortable gamekeeper to become a half-starved poacher.

Over 15 books later, mostly on sport and mostly on Tottenham Hotspur, he still wonders if he made the right move, and ponders how he ended up supporting Spurs, but critical and occasional bestselling success has had its compensations. His recent collaborative effort 61: The Spurs Double won the best illustrated category in the 2011 British Sports Book Awards, and finished as runner-up in the BSBA Book of the Year gong.

A former football stringer for the Sunday Mirror, whose editors indulgently put up with his lack of talent, Powley has also written for The Times, The Guardian and Time Out. His new book is When Cricket Was Cricket: a Nostalgic Look at a Century of the Greatest Game: “If you’re a cricket lover [you’ll] love it.” – Hawksbee & Jacobs, TalkSPORT

Adam's latest book is When Boxing Was Boxing, published by Haynes Publishing.
