Daniel Berman assesses Newt Gingrich's prospects of beating Mitt Romney in the Republican primaries.
Read moreDaniel had his first experience with political punditry when he asked his parents why they intended to vote for Bill Clinton, when as far as he could tell George Bush seemed to be a good President. Eighteen years of following US and International Politics have convinced him that at age 6 he was quite right about that campaign.
A passionate follower of electoral politics, Daniel grew up in the suburbs of Boston, spending summers in New Hampshire, home of the New Hampshire Primary, where Presidential candidates engage in the 18th century tradition of handshaking, policy debate, and shoveling voter's driveways so their kids can sleep in on Sundays. He received his undergraduate degree from Bates College before receiving a Masters Degree from the University of St. Andrews. Finding that he liked the UK, he remained there for the following two years, writing on International Affairs for Fivethirtyeight.com, and running into various members of the Cabinet around London.
While threatening to go native at times (he once horrifying asked an American acquaintance returning from a football game whether he had scored a goal), he has remained involved in US politics, closely following the 2012 campaign, as well as 2011 redistricting efforts.A veteran of time on both Beacon and Capitol Hill, he brings to his coverage of the process the respect it deserves and not much more.
