About Nick Bourne

Nick Bourne is a graduate of the University of Wales Aberystwyth, and Trinity College Cambridge, Barrister of Gray’s Inn.

He is the author of numerous legal text books, principally on Company Law. He is a member of the Society of Authors and Editorial Board of the Business Law Review.

Nick was Company Secretary and Director of the largest distance learning company in the world, Chart Foulks Lynch PLC, when it achieved a public listing.

He is a one time Assistant Principal and Dean of Law of Swansea Law School at Swansea Institute of Higher Education, now Swansea Metropolitan University.

From 1999-2011 he was Leader of the Welsh Conservative Party in the National Assembly for Wales, spearheading the transformation of the party’s fortunes in Wales. He took the Party from being the third party in Wales to the second party and Official Opposition.

He was an early supporter of David Cameron before he became Party Leader in 2005 and was responsible as Party Leader in the National Assembly for embracing a Welsh agenda and also ensuring better female representation for the Party.

He was said to be “A victim of his own success” in 2011 when the Party went forward again in votes and seats in the National Assembly elections and in consequence lost his own list seat.

Interests include travel, walking, tennis, badminton, the National Trust, British Council, theatre, reading.
