Read morePeter is the Chief Executive of Counsel and Care, a national charity providing support to older people their carers and families. From 2005 – 2007 he was the General Secretary of the Labour Party resigning in the wake of the so called Donorgate scandal. In January 2010 Peter published a hard hitting account of his time as General Secretary Inside Out. The book was a highly personal account of the inner workings of the top of the Labour Party through some of its most turbulent times. He was formally a Qualified Nurse and before moving to Counsel and Care was Chief Executive of The Campaign Company, a communications consultancy.
Peter has six children and one grandchild. He and his wife Vilma are active Foster Carers. He is the Chair of the Kingston Foster Carers Association and a Lay member of the Kingston Local Safer Children’s Board. He is a cricket fanatic, supporter of Liverpool FC and a vegan.
