About Tom Harris

Tom Harris was born in 1964 and was brought up in Ayrshire, Scotland, and originally trained and worked as a journalist before working for the Labour Party as a press officer.

He then went into public relations before entering parliament as a Labour MP in 2001. In September 2006, Blair appointed him to the government as minister for the railways. Two years later, Gordon Brown sacked him.

Tom wrote an award-winning blog, “And Another Thing…”, for two and a half years until the pressure of being entirely sensible and right all the time became too much and he packed it in. He was – and remains – a strong supporter of Tony Blair and New Labour.

Likes: making work pay, Twitter, the respect agenda, marriage, God, private enterprise, Doctor Who, trains, planes and automobiles.

Dislikes: benefit dependency, the word “progressive”, people who talk in cinemas, football, Islamism and its apologists, Nick Clegg.

He lives in Glasgow with his wife, Carolyn, and has three sons."
