Fiona Mactaggart Is A Hypocrite

Jonathan Sheppard explains why people don't like hypocrisy in politicians.

1111_large Was Fiona right?

We all remember when Fiona Mactaggart essentially insulted Chloe Smith in the Chamber for having the temerity of being too you and a Minister. So much so that Fiona actually was publicly repentant for such a sin on this very blog.

Is it me, or is there now any irony to see Fiona Mactaggart criticise the Prime Minister for calling Dennis Skinner a dinosaur, and then trying to imply that the perceived rudeness is down to being schooled at Eton, thereby trying to make class the line of attack?

People don't like politicians who adopt a 'do as I say, not as I do attitude', and Fiona Mactaggart has highlighted a prime example of this today.

Maybe her rudeness was also down to her schooling? Who am I to say?

Hypocrisy is a perk of the left-wing.

This is not surprising. They exhort the electorate to follow their mandates (comprehensive schooling, pay all UK taxes, do not discriminate), and then do something else (Harman, Abbott, Blair on schooling; Abbott on racism; Blair, Miliband on taxes etc, etc).

Meanwhile the right-wing act no different, they just do not make the hypocritical exhortations in the first place.

As I said on the comments section of that article too, the argument was absurd and was just an excuse again to try to shift focus on to the fact Cameron went to Eton.

It was also slightly patronising towards Skinner, suggesting that he needed and wanted Ms Mactaggart to speak up for him. I doubt he was that bothered and I'm sure he can speak for himself, he doesn't usually seem to have trouble doing so!

As she has form on the matter, she's a hypocrite. Proven.

What can you expect from someone whose father was a multimillionaire and who owns lots of houses? She's jealous as she did not go to Eton..but Cheltenham Ladies College..

She's another champagne socialist.

Just very silly for Fiona to invoke the narrative that Cameron is posh and ergo rude. Not sure rudeness is only the privilege of public school alumni in my experience.

The quality of the comments here is truly spectacular.

Kernow Castellan take that plank out of your own eye - only those on the left are ever guilty of hypocrisy? Yeah, right.

I wouldn't want to defend Mactaggart, her post was really, really poor.

But the fact is, as the author writes, "People don't like politicians who adopt a 'do as I say, not as I do attitude'", and that trait is just as common amongst politicians of the right as it is of the left - as, in fact you exemplify Kernow.

Prove me wrong. Show me that shining beacon of right wing non-hypocrisy. I'm intrigued.

I have to say I agree James - hypocrisy is not tied to one party. It is like the politicians that berate us to go green and then you learn they have five children (having kids in the western world is hugely damaging). So yes they are being virtuous by suggesting we adopt green lifestyle choices, but not exactly doing the right thing themselves.

I have to say, there but for the grace of god go I...in that sometimes you say something and it takes someone else to point out your hypocrisy.

In this case I was just a tad flabbergasted by the audacity.... maybe Fiona thinks that because she was guilt of being a tad rude due to someones age she has the authority to speak on it, as some reformed offender?

I don't know, but there must BE a reason for it.

Isn't that part of the silliness in what she wrote. At times we have all been rude I am sure. To make some kind of argument that what Cameron did was because he went to Eton is the kind of daft stuff that comes from the opposition at the moment.

What on earth is wrong with politicians being robust, rude and unpleasant?
Fiona McTaggart was rude about Chloe Smith...and? Isn't that what she's meant to do? Sickening that she apologised though.

Sometimes I wonder why some of these so-called 'fans' come to the games at all. Insult, innuendo, rudeness, playing the man, not the ball - that's what I come to see! Not a load of mumsy Milibands...
